What's really interesting here is how long it took Command and control to give the go ahead to fire on these guys.

You can hear the obvious frustration in the voices of the Kiowa crew, as htye try to get approval to fire.

Seems to me it took too long to get approval to fire.

If the helo crew is running the mission, get the office boys of government out of it. Sounds like the old day problems of Vietnam. It's BS and everyone knows it.

I don't believe the order itself was probably coming from Washington, more likely in country Command and Control, but it seemed to take a while to get final approval.

In the military bureaucracy, there are desk jockeys who just want to keep their nice shiny army intact, without any yukky firing on the enemy. McClellan did it in the Civil War, and now it goes on today. If you haven't read it yet, I recommend The Majestic Twelve: The True Story of the Most Feared Combat Escort Unit in Baghdad as a good way to get a feel for this problem. Stupid desk jockeys. And three cheers to the Kiowa crew - keep up the good work!

They need everyone, no exceptions, to be in a life and death forward fire position, before they should be able to even use the desk or mic at command/control. Half those bozos have no idea that seconds are more important than they believe.

I agree. It's not wise to run a war from Washington. That is why McCrystal is there. Why appoint someone if Obama doesn't trust his judgement?

Very sad how the "decision making" is so layered with Bravo Sierra.

Hopefully those terrorists that escaped were brought to justice.

How do you know they escaped? The video ends too soon.

I agree that approval to engage took too long -- they should have smoked them when they saw the IED planted. There could be little doubt what they were up to at that point.

-they should have smoked them when they saw the IED planted.

I'm sure they want ed to, but then they'd have violated rules of engagement, and could have opened themselves up to disciplinary action, including court martial.
