Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The issue of separating yourself from a harmful environment is a recurring theme in the life of black men. It has nothing to do with football, or Sean Taylor or even sports. To frame it as a sports issue is as insulting as it is naive. Most of us, perhaps even the great majority of us who grew up in big urban communities, have to make a decision at some point to hang out or get out.

Michael Wilbon is totally right about that. I made that decision at age 19. I got out.

The kid who becomes a pharmaceutical rep has the same call to make as the lawyer or delivery guy or accountant or sportswriter or football player: Cut off anybody who might do harm, even those who have been friends from the sandbox, or go along to get along.

Good seed, thanks.

Jazzy, I couldn't get the link to open but have been reading about this tragedy. Last night on ABC News it was featured as 'Is there something wrong with football?', delivered in ominous tones by Charles Gibson. GIMME A BREAK.

Kath, I agree with you ABC News should give a break with that!!! This reall has nothing to do with football, as Wilbon pointed out in his article.

Some people stay in the old neighborhoods and try to remain a good influence, perhaps even a sanctuary for others. I know from experience that it is not an easy road.

In any case, I will pray for his family, 24 is so young to lose your life.

Annie,

My dad is still there, by choice, and not necessity:
